A GATSBY-THEMED MOVIE NIGHT
written by annamarie garcia
As we all search for creative ways to make our stay-at-home weekend activities memorable, what better way to enjoy the warmer evenings than setting up your very own outdoor movie night? To make the evening truly Instagram-worthy, set a theme for your movie night that extends to food, drinks, music, and attire.
This May marks the 7th Anniversary of “The Great Gatsby” movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and is the perfect inspiration for a “Gatsby Era” themed movie night complete with Prohibition Cocktails to take things to the next-level. Begin by setting the mood with music… head over to your Pandora App and search for a “Roaring Twenties” playlist. Watching a short ad will gain you access to premium Pandora features like listening to specific playlists, albums, or sound tracks.
Making this movie night an outdoor experience isn’t as far fetch as you may think. Head over to Amazon to pick up a pop-up movie screen and projector which can be used throughout the summer, because let’s face it… once you create your first themed-movie night, you’ll want to do it again and again! Grease theme anyone???
Apart from setting a dress code inspired by the theme of your Jazz Age movie night (i.e. pearl necklaces, beaded dresses, and tuxedos) turn your attention to snacks and drinks. You can keep it simple and stick to theater classics like buttered popcorn and candy, or try your hand at preparing some small bites that you might have been served had you attended a Gatsby-hosted party the summer of 1922. One thing is for sure, the cocktails that grew in popularity during this Prohibition Era are ones that can be easily recreated. Check out a few of our recommendations below to make your movie night truly Gatsby-inspired.
